Memories of Bolton
We were blessed in 1990 to find the world's most wonderful Golden Retriever, whom we named Kelly. Realizing we could never be without a Golden, we selected Darby to be Kelly's wife and ultimately on 1/3/97 the parents of 10 glorious puppies. As our goal was to reproduce Kelly, we chose to keep Bolton and his brother Braley and we lived happily as a herd of six until Kelly left us at age 12 yrs 3 mos; then Darby at 11 yrs; then Braley in 2007 (10 1/2 yrs); and now Bolton just a week shy of his 12th birthday. Bolton was the alpha dog, ever vigilant, always looking you directly...and lovingly...in the eye. When his pal Braley died, Bolton became our last Golden and the focus of our attention and love, and quickly blossomed into his Dad's best buddy. He had his patterns: a walk in the morning through the woods...joining us in the gardens especially in his last summer...his favorite part of any day:a ride in the car with Dad where he visited with everyone who passed by in Clinton and Flemington...biscuit on returning and don't you forget it because he never did...the final walk through the woods at day's end with Mom and Dad, maybe a stick to chew on as we'd sit on the benches placed throughout the property. And always, always watching for us to sit on the front porch so he could lay next to us on the walkway and watch over the property as he chewed his stick. We will so miss seeing his head pop up at the foot of the bed every morning and his levitating up onto the bed as if there was no gravity and he was not a 90-lb Golden. Car rides will never be the same, nor the walks in the woods where he tracked every deer and fox that passed the night before. For all his attitude, he was a mush with the grandchildren and his wonderful 'brothers' Steve and Matthew. So here's to you, Boltie: one last kiss on that big black nose from your Mom and Dad.
