Memories of Jensen Mapes
Jensen Mapes named after a true hero came into our lives after the loss of our beloved Truman. I saw his face and knew he was the one to join our family. He was so expensive ! 2000 thousand dollars! But his papa said okay and surprised me with the best boy. That is our story we like to tell him. His mama wasn't there when he arrived all the way from Florida to Washington state. His papa and brother picked him up from the airport and he was covered in poo and feisty right off the bat. A little piranha! Right away he imprinted on his papa and from that moment on that was his person. He loved me because I was his mama but he loved loved his papa. He was named after a good friend and he served that name well for being the best boy . Always serious about everything! He wasn't a kisser but he was a smuggler, We would always say that to him. He loved to snuggle as close as he could get on the sofa or the bed. But no kisses from him. He liked to get kisses sometimes but he would turn his head that silly boy.
He loved to run and play and booty scoot in the back yard and run under the bushes we use to have out back to knock off the flowers then pounce off his papa's legs. We even had snow and loved that too! He was a wild puppy! He would have to have his night night leash to get him to calm down and night! He was also a jumper on people . Then he just kind of stopped doing that .
Then came along his silly little brother and they played all the time. Well Jensen didn't want to play all the time but he tolerated his little brother who had to be touching him at all times and trying to get him to fight! Jensen became so serious.,
Jensen loved to snuggle his papa in his man chair. That was his favorite spot. We would walk by and he would look so smug like he had the best seat in the house! And he did! He loved to be lazy.
Jensen loved dinner time and boy did he let us know it! Food better be served up at his breakfast and dinner time. He would put on a big show and act like he was starving and telling a story about it! He didn't even care what he had for dinner he would gobble it down and wait to get his cookie. He was a big boy and food was his hobby.
Jensen loved being at his Washington house and lounging on the sofa in the living room too so he could look out the window. He would sit like an old man with his arm propped up and usually his little brother behind him.
When the weather was nice he loved his back yard sofa! The sunshine was his favorite . The golfers would get a kick out this big dog just lounging on the sofa all day. Sometimes at night I would have to roust him in around midnight just to come inside he loved it so much.
Jensen never met a stranger he was so easy going about everything, He wanted to be wherever we were. He loved sleeping on the bed like a king . We would find him tucked in behind the pillows. He would burrow there.
He loved the shower ! Never hunted but he was a duck dog! He loved the water! We would just let him get in whenever he wanted. Then tell him to "shake it off " and he would roll his face around on the towel on the ground and rub up against the bed and booty scoot. Booty scooting he was so good at! He would get crazy and scoot ! Causing his little brother Meiko to get in on the fun.
After an exceptionally good dinner such as steak he would rub around his face on the carpet to let us know that he enjoyed his meal/ So funny that guy.
Arizona was fun for him. We are sad that he got sick here. He was so full of life and love. He loved to swim in the pool and the hot tub. He would lounge on the chairs in the sun even if no one was outside. He lived the life of a retired old man. Always the water dog.
he loved to lay on the outdoor sofas too.
He was a pretty obstinate dog as well. he was obedient but only to a certain extent. He was headstrong and didn't like to be told what to do. His papa would give him commands for down over and over and finally he would be he would grumble on the way down. And there was no way he was staying down for long1 He was in charge!
Today is an awful day. The house is so quiet without you jensen. We are so sad that your became so ill, But you were made of strong stuff to have lasted and done all that you did to be here with us. We will forever miss you and I don't know how we are going to deal without your large presence. You were our sweet boy our JJ. You will always be our sweet JJ. Time will pass but the emptiness from your absence will not fade. I hope you know how much we love you and loved you and letting you go was the hardest thing. We would keep you on earth with us forever if we could have. Today is also the passing of Truman and I believe that you are running free with him and Sassy.
You were ready and we were not but we had to let you go to the rainbow bridge. God loves the animals and God loved you enough to be our boy and we are so grateful and thankful . There would never be enough time with you. We have so many photos but there will never be enough photos. You are so loved our sweet Jensen Mapes.
Please look after us from heaven and know one day we will all be together again. And watch out for Meiko down here because he doesn't have you here anymore. He will miss you and we will make sure to talk about you to him all the time. He was there until the end with you. He loves you like he always has as his big brother.
Run free now and use those strong legs again. You are that young strong pup.
All of our love to you JJ forever
Your Papa, Mama, SIssy and Brother and Meiko
