Memories of LARA
Happy Birthday Dear Lara 25/3/19. I am now so alone every day.

Your story.

you were born 25/3/10 having a German father and an Australian mother a litter produced by the police dog squad. Things did not work out and a senior in the police force asked for you to be his mother's friend. So you moved to that family. As a puppy you loved tearing small branches off trees and chasing birds. The police family decided your energy was too much for a senior lady so you came up for adoption through the German Shepherd Dog Club of Victoria.

I had lost my last Shepherd Dog some time before and agreed it was time and a priveledge to give you a home. .
My friend Lorraine and I went to visit you saying to the family we would call back but they said your food and belongings were in our car so Lorraine sat with you in the back seat while I drove to your new home.So our wonderful journey Began.

You settled in easily, claimed the coach took over the back yard and made yourself known to Snowy the cat and others living with us, and of course Donna, who was to become a big part of your life and who trained you to the highest level of achievement in the GSDC which you passed. The East Malvern GSDC Branch were so good to us right from the start to the very end with advice and help and caring. We thank you.Especially Gail who got you and I from the sidelines to working almost close to the other dogs. And we thank all the other understanding committee members and members so much.

Soon after it was time to introduce you to new human friends and others at our Dance Studio: who grew to love you. You surely remember the ones who always came with treats. You knew when they were to come and headed to the front door to meet those very special people. But their were many more to have as friends every day before we went home.

Each day you and I headed for the Park at 3 pm and how you loved to run and jump before we headed back to start classes.

It was a good life for so few years.

The end came suddenly, without warning. A Sunday morning I woke to find you lethargic and not wanting to get off the couch. So we did not go to Dog school instead going to the emergency veterinary clinic. After hours of testing and waiting the result was we should have a full body scan, which I booked for the next day.You and I were so happy to get out of that place and we ran to the car.

The next morning Donna and I took you to have further scans under sedation. You were so good and went without a fuss without us leaving you for some hours which we had to do. But so pleased again to come out and go to the Studio with us where we heard that you had cancer which was terminal and in multiple organs so untreatable. I would have given you any treatment I could find at whatever cost. But it was not to be.

Our choice was to look after you to the end. One month later Sunday 4th November You were happy barking at the neighbour's dog, and chasing birds in the back yard. I left you home while I went to do some work. On arriving home you were lying in the passage way watching the front door waiting for me. You struggled to get up and you were suffereing. I knew this was the end. You struggled to walk around , you lay next to me on the floor to say goodbye . You walked to the bedroom door and dropped raised your head looked at me and then passed away.

It was early hours of the morning when i contacted Lorraine and Donna and others. And made arrangements for cremation at a beautiful caring facility where we could take our time to say a last good bye to you and your favourite toys and take you on your final journey right to the very end in this world.

Thankyou for giving me so much. I hope there is a time when connect again.Until then my everlasting love goes with you. And with the love of so many others whose path you crossed.

Love always. Don XXXXX
